Primavera

Inspired loosely by the characters seen in Botticelli’s Spring,” this series combines the technique of antiquity with stories from modern life. Like much of my work, I want to explore the intricacies of feminine identity through the friendships formed between young women.

The Narrative

In this series, I use the rituals of getting ready for a night out as a backdrop for feminine joy and interpersonal connection. The monochromatic primary color scheme amplifies each character’s personality within the narrative, while the bathroom setting creates a sense of intimacy. In the first scene, there is a focus on quiet intimacy as one gets ready.

Bathrooms are a space often used by women to connect and celebrate (every bar bathroom where boundaries go out the window and every girl there is your new best friend). This second set of images introduces more joy and indulgence through clothing and vice. While each figure is separate, together they occupy the same space, alluding to that element of community and connection.

The final motif of this series is the culminating moment of anticipation. Each figure is alone, but ready to join the masses. Each figure is dressed and accompanied by her vice of choice. The night is young, and so are they. They are ready to indulge in each other's company and the night ahead of them.

The Finale

In the final image, all three women are finally together. They are seated together, in a moment of waiting for the night to begin. I hope that my audience can connect with this moment of connection and anticipation before the Uber shows up to take you to your destination. This piece is dedicated to the friendships that have lasted lifetimes and the ones we have yet to make. Thank you for everything.

Much of this project would not be possible without the generous support of my dear friends Shannon and Fiona. They were gracious and gorgeous models for this project, and I am deeply grateful for their participation. Love you both so much!
